ABSTRACT


This important principle used in feeding strategy is reducing feed input that does not impact on fish growth. One of this strategy is periodic fasting. Fasting has done for reducing over protein cosumption and waste, but not inhibiting fish growth. The change of body composition is one of growth indicator where the change of body composition reflect in proksimate composition ie moisture, protein, lipida, carbohydrate and mineral percentade that stated in ash of body. Lipostatic model is also indicator to know compensatory growth.
The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of periodic fasting on body composition and lipostatic model of Tambaqui (Colossoma macropomum). The method used in this study was experiment based on completely randomized design consisting of control K(feed daily) and two treatments ie: P1 (fish was unfed for 2 days and 5 days refeeding), P2 (fish was unfed for 3 days and 4 days refeeding). Five replicates were provided for the control and the treatments. The variables observed were body composition and lipostatic model. The experiments were conducted for 12 weeks.
The result showed that Tambaqui received periodic fasting did not affect moisture, protein content, fiber, ash and nitrogen free extract but affect lipid content of body and lipostatic model of Tambaqui (Colossoma macropomum).
