ABSTRACT

The observation of zooplankton grazing on phytoplankton had been coducted in the fishing ground of Bagan Rambo on coastal water of Barru Regency, Makassar Strait in May and July 2005. The method used in observation of zooplankton grazing on phytoplankton is incubation for 24 hours gallon bottle and grazing box. The result show that zooplankton grazing rate on phytoplankton differ according to the phytoplankton abundance and phytoplankton : zooplankton abundance ratio. Individual zooplankton grazing rate on phytoplankton increased with increasing initial phytoplankton abundance. Grazing zooplankton on phytoplankton occurred when phytoplankton abundance > 753 cells/liter.
