ABSTRACT

Objective of this study was to determine the daily growth rate (somatic growth) Kappaphycus alvarezii varieatas green and brown waters of Kei Kecil village Sathean District of South east Maluku. The study was conducted in the village Sathean water in January-September 2013, with two (2) seed treatments using longline methods which were maintained for 6 seasons. Water quality measurement showed dissolved oxygen at station I–III ranged between 3.4 - 4.58 mg/L, temperature 30 oC, between 27-32 ‰ of salinity, pH varied from 8,15 to 8,26. While the value of nitrite (NO2) 0.009 mg/L, nitrate (NO3) < 5 mg/L, ammonia (NH3) ranged between 0.0010 -0.126 mg/L and phosphate (PO4) ranged from < 0.25mg/L. Daily growth rate K. alvarezii during 42 days culture showed varietas of green seedlings (BHT) was highest at the fourth period on along line planting 4 with the weight of 407 grams, while the lowest average value found in the first planting period in the long line with a weight of 24 gr. In contrast the average weight of seaweed with brown seed varieties (BCT) found that the highest weight was found in the period of long IV at long line 2 (427grams), while the lowest was found in the period of the planting of the first long line at long line 5 (52 grams). During planting periode III (April-May) and (August to September) obtained daily growth rate were less than 3%.
